Setting Up August 2017

And just like that, July is over. But that means creating new pages and layouts! Yay! 😀

Every month I review, I design, and I draw out layouts for whatever needs I have that month. August is a little less busy for me than the past couple months, so I’ll be trying some new things. I’ve tweaked some of the old, added some brand new; keep on reading and I’ll show you how-to! (I’m cheesy, I know.)

Reflecting on July and August Prep

When a new month and empty pages arrive, I always like to reflect on the previous month to see how my current needs are different than previous month’s. July was a very hectic, busy month. I needed simple pages, and I needed very few pages. I just didn’t have the time to keep up with everything. August on the other hand, will have a lot more free time to create and track.

My color scheme for August was originally supposed to be shades of blue (as always) with some yellow thrown in for sunflowers. But… as with my ever changing mind, my color scheme changed. Instead I’ll be using shades of blue with some green hues thrown in for palm trees/leaves. You’ll see more of this later on!

One thing I’ve noticed, not just in July, but over the past few months, is that I really need to work on keeping myself excited about my journal. So, I’ll be “keepin’ it fresh” this month by changing up my weekly layouts continuously, adding a new monthly, and adding a couple of other new pages.

I’ve also really enjoyed a more minimalistic style lately. I’ll be keeping to simple designs that are not too time consuming. I’ll also be using minimal color other than for doodles and small highlights.

Lastly, my index shown in the image was definitely a rough index. It’s already changed! I’ve added quite a few additional pages before my weeklies begin. Keep scrolling to read more about those!

Hello August (and Vacation!)

Vacation is right around the corner for me, so I’ve been dreaming of palm trees, sunshine, and sand between my toes. Sunflowers just didn’t feel right for me this month while having beach on the mind. And that’s exactly how I ended up changing my theme to blue, green, and some palm trees in between.

Old, But Refreshed

Some pages this month may look familiar simply because they are! I’ve taken some inspiration from pages I’ve enjoyed in the past and gave them a make-over to hopefully get more use out of them.

Back to Basics Monthly

I personally love the look of of the basic calendar layout; however, I haven’t found it all that useful in the past with the amount of things going on. Now that I’m working, and most of my big events are over extended periods of time (2 days to a week), I thought I’d give this classic layout another shot. We’ll see how it actually goes though!

Also, sticking with the palm tree theme here by throwing in some palm leaves. I also thought it would be fun to bring in some blues into my big leaf in the corner. For a first attempt, I think they turned out pretty well!

Rearranging Accountability

Ahh… the good old accountability page that I could never finish or stick with. This month, I’ve decided to put all of my tracking columns into one big visual. My idea with this is that, hopefully I’ll be so excited to see a pretty graph at the end that I’ll actually stick with my goals this month.

I’m also learning to have more realistic expectations of myself. As you can see, I have a big note that I’ll be on vacation for a week. Obviously I wont be really dieting, exercising, or writing blog posts during that time. As a result, I’ll be taking this into consideration when I evaluate my success at the end of the month.

New Chapter, New Pages!

Since graduation and the new job, a lot has been changing and I thought it would be a good time to add some changes to my journal too! My new pages revolve around being a better grown-up, creating a brand, and sharing the journal love.

Mo’ money, mo’ problems – aka the budget

Yay for money, but now its time to be smart and learn how to spend it (or not spend it)! And with that, creating a budget just made sense. This page will supplement my budget sheet I have on Excel. Having a duplicate budget in my journal is to keep myself mindful of my spending since I’ll likely be using my journal more than Excel.

Growing a Brand

Over the next couple of months I’ll be working on getting a few exciting new projects going, and all of these will involve growing the Nittany Bujo brand. The goal for this page is to track various Instagram statistics that could help me have a better idea of areas for improvement. I have one page for tracking post statistics and another for tracking followers. Next month, I’m hoping to incorporate other social media accounts into this layout.

Keeping Inspired and Showing Some Love

In case you haven’t heard, I’ve recently started doing Saturday Shoutouts on my Instagram. Each week I’ll select an account to feature, and this page will be used to track those accounts, add some notes about why I was inspired, and note any other important or relevant info.

If you would like the chance to be featured, be sure to follow my Instagram (@nittany_bujo) and use #nittanybujo on your posts!

And there you have it… August! Hope this helped you understand why I design what I design, and maybe help you think about your designs some too!
